Disqualified driver, Patrick Thomas Mongan, wasn’t too clever when he decided to fail to stop for PCs Mike Fisher and Eleanor Lett in Langley Moor, on Monday, February 1.

The pursuit of the Transit Tipper lasted for about ten minutes until Mongan decided he was no match for the officers, who had also been joined by members of the Road Policing Unit, and decided to pull over.

He was arrested at the scene for disqualified driving, failing to stop, having no insurance and careless driving.

At Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, the 34-year-old, of Croft Close, Stanley, was sentenced to three months in prison for the offences.

PC Fisher, of Durham City Team D Response, said: “This disqualified driver put others at risk but thankfully came to a safe stop once he realised it was foolish to try to make off.

“Hopefully his time in prison will make him think twice about his behaviour in the future.”
